Claude says

“Half of all new legislation now enacted in the UK begins in Brussels. Since the late 1990s the European Parliament has extensive power to amend or strike down laws in key areas of our lives. It has never been more important as an MEP to focus on how I can influence this legislation, keep a check against the European Commission and Council (member states) and scrutinise the EU budget. Many of the key issues I concentrate on in the European Parliament will directly affect the people I represent as a London MEP, from ageing and pensioners’ issues, anti-discrimination, action on disability, EU funding for London and urban regeneration, to a wealth of employment matters such as working time or health and safety legislation.”
